Official: Liverpool finnaly agree in signing 21-year-old Ligue 1 goal machine

The Merseyside giants are eyeing a swoop for Lille centre-forward Jonathan David. The 21-year-old centre-forward is one of Europe’s top young talents. Jonathan turned heads with his fantastic showings for Gent before moving to the French club in 2020. David has since played 70 games for Lille, scoring 25 goals and assisting five more.

Canada international played a key role in Lille’s Ligue 1 win last campaign. Currently, 20 points off the top, and the chances of launching a successful title defence are extremely unlikely. Despite Les Dogues having lost a level, the Canadian striker continues to soar and has just seen his reputation enhanced.

His displays have not gone unnoticed on Merseyside, where the Reds are keeping a keen eye on his progress. Liverpool were linked with the footballer last summer but chose against making a move. They do not appear to have abandoned the interest altogether. Jonathan’s deal with Lille runs until the summer of 2025.

This gives them a major advantage when it comes to talks. The Reds, however, have numerous reasons to be optimistic regarding a possible deal. David is keen to compete at a higher level, something he will find unable to do at Lille.
