Chelsea eyeing move for highly-rated Ligue 1 attacker
Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have entered the hunt to sign Hugo Ekitike from the Ligue 1 side Reims and have sent scouts to monitor the highly-rated French forward, according to 90min.
He began his career at Cormontreuil before joining Les rouges et blancs youth setup in 2013.
Hugo did not break into the senior team until the start of this term, having spent the last season on loan at the Danish Superliga side Vejle Boldklub, where the player made quite the impression and netted three times in 11 outings.
However, the 19-year-old sensation’s real burst to prominence has come at Stade Auguste Delaune this season.
Ekitike has been one of the rising stars in the top-flight, notching up nine goals from 19 division games. No Under-20 player has netted more goals in the top five European leagues this campaign.
The youngster already being tracked by a couple of Premier League clubs, including the Blues, the Reds and the Red Devils.
Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel could surely do with another number nine in the ranks, givne that not one player in the German’s team has reached double figures yet in the goal area.
Club-record signing Romelu Lukaku has failed to live up to the expectations thus far in his second stint at Stamford Bridge, largely because of injury issues and a lack of confidence.
So it makes sense that the capital outfit are keeping a close eye on a future talent like Ekitike.
