Man Utd finally to agree deal for 6 ft 4 Ligue 1 defender & miss out signing of UCL winning South American attacker

Chelsea and Man Utd are reportedly keeping close tabs on any developments with the future of AS Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile.

After disappointing Premier League season in their own right, the Blues and the Red Devils are in the market for fresh faces as they bid to close the gap to Liverpool and Man City.

However, despite the desire to acquire new additions, neither team have made a signing heading into July, something which is likely to lead to a busy two months.

Bringing in a new centre-back is a priority for each of Erik ten Hag and Thomas Tuchel, and it is believed that they are assessing whether to rival each other for the same target.

According to Nice-matin, the two English top teams are involved in the race to secure the services of the highly-regarded Badiashile from AS Monaco.

The Ligue 1 giants have already witnessed Aurelien Tchouameni depart Stade Louis II for La Liga giants, Real Madrid for a fee which could rise to in excess of £80m.

Centre-back Strahinja Pavlovic has also departed for Red Bull Salzburg, already leaving Philippe Clement one centre-back down ahead of the new season.

Nevertheless, while team and head coach would prefer to retain the services of Badiashile, the 21-year-old has just two years left on his current deal.

That detail effectively leaves the France U-21 international on the market to interested teams, AS Monaco potentially not wanting to run the risk of the player’s deal entering its final 12 months.

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has reportedly rejected approaches from three top Premier League teams to extend his stay at Santiago Bernabeu.

Brazilian winger, became one of Carlo Ancelotti’s star performers in the 2021-22 campaign, he has managed to found back of the net 22 times and provided 20 assists in 52 games across all competitions.

Vinicius’s exploits helped Los Blancos secure a UCL and La Liga double, and he also scored the winning goal against the Merseyside Reds in the final.

The 21-year-old’s existing contract at the Bernabeu only has two years before his contract expires with the Los Blancos, however, he recently revealed that he was on the verge of signing an extension with the capital giants.

“Paris Saint-Germain interested in me? I want to stay at Real Madrid. I’m close to a contract renewal,” Vinicius told reporters when questioned on links with the French champions.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Chelsea and Man Utd are both desperate to agree deal for Vinicius Junior in order to strengthen their offensive end.

The report claims that Ligue 1 giants were indeed hoping to prise the ex-Flamengo wonderkid away from the Bernabeu, and a mammoth €40m (£34.3m) yearly salary was reportedly offered to the youngster.

The 14-cap Brazilian star is in line to earn €10m (£8.6m) per year under his new contract.
