Chelsea tried to agree deal for 27-year-old Ligue 1 defender last month
Chelsea have been dealt yet another huge blow in their pursuit of French centre-back Presnel Kimpembe electing to remain at Paris Saint-Germain.
Kimpembe has been rumoured with the transfer to Stamford Bridge for some time, with the Blues keen to sign a left-sided defender this summer following the exit of Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid.
However, according to Le10Sport via Get French Football News, Kimpembe has made the decision to remain at the Parc des Princes despite interest from Premier League.
Back in July, the French World Cup winning defender said: ‘I’m waiting to meet with the new management with regard to the club’s project. We’ll have to speak very soon.
‘I think it’s legitimate to ask my club about the future project and what role I am going to be given.’
The Ligue 1 heavyweights have a new head-coach for the new campaign, with Christophe Galtier replacing the sacked Mauricio Pochettino after an underwhelming season, and it seems 26-year-old defender has been assured that he will remain a vital member of the side.
Had they been looking to sell, Ligue 1 giants would have wanted at least €50million (£42m) for their star player, and while the Blues and other interested parties did submit bids earlier in the summer, none of them matched the French giants asking price.
Although Chelsea have managed to secure the services of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City and Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.
