Chelsea eyeing Ligue Un star who has scored more than Messi and Mbappe this season
Chelsea are considering a January move for Jonathan David, according to reports in France.
The Lille forward has been a shining light in Ligue 1 since joining the club from Belgian side Gent in 2020, scoring 41 goals in 107 appearances.
David has scored as many goals as Neymar this season and one more than Mbappe
Graham Potter is looking to add attacking reinforcements to his side and has identified the 22-year-old as a talent for the present and for the future with 33-year-old Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang coming into the final years at the top of his career.
David is reportedly available for between £38million and £46million, paving the way to a potential move to Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal have also previously been linked with a move for the player, but opted to sign Gabriel Jesus instead.
The Canada international is certainly comfortable mixing it with the best in the game.
David is in electric form for Lille this term, having scored nine goals and provided two assists in 11 matches.
That tally has made him the joint-top scorer in Ligue 1 alongside Paris Saint-Germain Neymar and one ahead of Kylian Mbappe who has eight to his name, with Lionel Messi further behind on five.
David could now become Potter’s first signing since he replaced Thomas Tuchel in September.
Chelsea spent over £270m in the summer transfer window as they landed Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana and the club’s new American owners are now ready to back Potter.
