Manchester United have shortlisted Kylian Mbappe as they plan for life without Edinson Cavani. Cavani is expected to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the campaign. And his former Paris Saint-Germain team-mate is being eyed as a replacement.
According to ESPN, United are interested in landing Mbappe.
The France international has just a year left on his current Parc des Princes contract and, while the Ligue 1 giants want to keep their talisman, the Red Devils are eyeing a deal nonetheless.
The publication states that United want to sign Mbappe in 2022, rather than now.
But the Red Devils would be wise to jump the gun on this in order to fend off competition from La Liga giants Real Madrid.
So Express Sport will now take a look at four players United will be wise to include in a potential swap deal to convince Mauricio Pochettino’s team into selling up.
PSG have also been long-term admirers of Anthony Martial.
Manchester United are in direct contact with Ligue 1 side Rennes to sign Eduardo Camavinga this summer, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Camavinga is one of the most sorted after midfielders in the current market. The Rennes wonderkid is just 18 years old and has already made 3 international appearances for the French national team. This is in addition to more than 80 first-team appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit.
Manchester United are looking to sign Camavinga this summer as the Frenchman is into the final year of his Rennes contract. He is highly unlikely to pen a new deal.
Despite being one of the brightest talents to come out of French football, Eduardo Camavinga is available to Manchester United for as little as €30 million. This is primarily because Rennes don’t want to lose their star player on a free transfer come next summer.
However, Manchester United are not the only club interested in signing Eduardo Camavinga. Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the prodigy’s contract situation at Rennes.
Manchester United In Pursuit Of This Ligue 1 Defender
In a recent report, Jeunes Footeux claimed that Chelsea are set to rival Manchester United in pursuit of Olympique Lyonnais defender Castello Lukeba. It has been revealed that the Blues are one of many clubs monitoring the progress of the French centre-back.
The Lyon-born talent defensive ace has proven himself to be a consistent performer in Ligue 1. Lukeba has made 16 appearances for the French club this season, scoring two goals in the process across all competitions.
The 19-year-old has caught the eye by averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per game in Ligue 1. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the back after making 90% of his attempted passes in the top tier of French football (stats via whoscored).
Lukeba can use his strong 1.84m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air and is a solid tackler of the ball. He can time his challenges well to earn possession back on the defensive end of the field.
The French whizkid is also proficient at playing his way out from the back but is still quite inexperienced at the highest level. Lukeba is primarily a central defender but can even fill in as a left-back if required. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to cope with the physical nature and high intensity of English football.
At 19, the future is quite bright for the Lyon youngster, so the Blues would do well to acquire his services during the summer transfer window. He will add more depth to Thomas Tuchel‘s defence and could help the West London club challenge for major trophies in the coming seasons.
Lukeba could serve as an ideal long-term replacement for Antonio Rudiger if Chelsea fail to keep the German defender at the club beyond this summer. With all things considered, the Ligue 1 prospect will be a good fit for the Blues to pursue when the transfer window commences later this year.
Monaco set £83m asking price for star man as Man Utd prepare for bidding war
Monaco have slapped a value of £83million on their star midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni as Manchester United and Chelsea prepare to lock horns in their attempts to sign him. Tchouameni is regarded as one of the best young players in Ligue 1 and has forced his way into the France team in recent months.
United and Chelsea are both on the lookout for new midfielders as they look to add more star quality to their squad.
And, according to Marca, the Premier League duo seem to be leading the race to get their hands on Tchouameni.
With interest high, it could be the case that Monaco sell to the highest bidder – so the clubs will need to crunch the numbers to see how much they are prepared to spend.
Real Madrid are also keen to land the 22-year-old and their chief scout Juni Calafat has already travelled to France for discussions with the player’s representatives over a move to the Bernabeu.
Monaco were apparently happy to accept around £50m for the youngster a year ago, but now they want as much as £83m for him. They could accept closer to £66m however.
And the Ligue 1 club may well get what they are asking for as Tchouameni appears to have a big future at the top of the game.
Tchouameni began his career at Bordeaux and made 37 appearances for the club after making his debut in a Europa League qualifier in July 2018 at the age of 18.
He signed for Monaco in January 2020 after putting pen-to-paper on a four-year deal and has been in scintillating form ever since.
The midfielder has made 76 appearances for his current club and has found the back of the net five times.
“Despite being so young, he is already a great player,” Mitchell said.
“If we want to be among the best clubs, we shouldn’t sell him. We are ambitious and we will analyse the situation at the end of the season.
“He has a contract until 2024 and the value of a top-level footballer. Everything is expensive in Monte Carlo. Let’s say that Tchouaméni is as expensive as the Grand Casino of Monaco.”
Man United face renewed competition from rivals for 22-year-old French ace
Manchester United face massive competition for Marseille star Boubacar Kamara in the summer.
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United will need to battle multiple clubs for the signature of Marseille star Boubacar Kamara in the summer, with the club looking for a midfield option to bolster their squad.
Man United have long suffered due to a lack of quality in the middle of the pitch, with a holding midfielder missing from the side to dictate the tempo and break apart opposition attacks. The midfield, therefore, has been a weak link, with stronger sides taking advantage of this flaw.
Given this, the Red Devils have eyed the 22-year-old star as a potential signing at the end of the season in an attempt to fix their issues, but face massive competition from other clubs who are trying to snap up the talented Frenchman.
Marseille ace Boubacar Kamara set to become a free agent in the summer.
The player is available as a free agent in the summer transfer window when his current deal with Marseille expires, which makes him an attractive option for sides that are aiming to sign midfield reinforcements.
The midfielder has also proved his versatility, with the Frenchman also capable of playing at centre-back if required. Interestingly, both positions that Kamara has experience playing in are areas that Man United are looking to upgrade and improve ahead of the new campaign.
However, it will hardly be a walk in the park for the Red Devils to sign the Ligue 1 midfielder, given that he has picked up interest from sides like Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Tottenham, and Southampton who are keen on his signature in the summer.
Ever since the retirement of Michael Carrick in 2018, Old Trafford has failed to see a midfield metronome capable of making the team tick and put together an attack. While we do have numbers in the middle of the pitch, the lack of ability is quite apparent.
Fred, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, and Nemanja Matic are currently available at the club, but none of the have proved to be either consistent or reliable. Pogba was re-signed by Man United in 2016 to bolster their midfield, but he has only shown flashes of brilliance in his second spell in England.

Furthermore, the Frenchman is set to leave the club for free this summer when his contract at Old Trafford expires, which makes our midfield situation even worse. Thus far, he has not shown any indication that his future lies in Manchester.
Perhaps, we could see one Frenchman depart and welcome another in at the Theatre of Dreams, signing Kamara as a potential replacement for Pogba. At 22, the Marseille man may be young, but given the interest he has racked up from other clubs, he clearly has the talent to succeed.
