Chelsea interested in signing€65m-rated Ligue 1 defender
Achraf Hakimi could be staring at an uncertain future at PSG following a disappointing debut season in the French capital. It has put Chelsea on alert, with the PL giants considering a move for Morocco international in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Blues were in the market for Achraf last summer when he was still at Inter Milan. But the move did not materialise, as the African defender ended up opting for a switch to Ligue 1 by joining the Parisians in order to pair up with attacking superstars such as Mbappe, Messi and Neymar, along with ex-Real Madrid teammate Ramos.
One year later, the move has not quite panned out as expected. Despite recording four goals and six assists, Hakimi has failed to live up to the expectations, often struggling to make the desired impact on the right flank, especially in key games.
Although the mood in the Parisians camp has improved drastically since Kylian Mbappe’s decision to snub Real Madrid, the Moroccan defender is one of many footballers who could look for a way out of the Parisians at the end of the campaign.
And it appears the Blues are more than willing to provide him an exit route and a platform to showcase his talents in the PL. The Blues’ interest in the African defender primarily stems from the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Reece James and Azpilicueta.
Deal Close: Ligue 1 starlet could join Liverpool next month
Premier League giants, Liverpool have reportedly been sending scouts to keep tabs on Saint-Etienne wonderkid Saidou Sow.
The 19-year-old arrived at the Les Verts academy six years ago and has risen through the ranks to become a regular fixture of the first team under Pascal Dupraz.
Sow has already played 30 games for Saint-Etienne in all competitions, founding back of the net twice and providing one assist in the process, all of which came in the recently-ended Ligue 1 campaign.
The promising defender could not prevent Saint-Etienne from being relegated, though, as he did not play a single minute of his side’s two-legged playoff loss to Auxerre.
Sow’s emergence in the Verts side could therefore catch the attention of potential suitors, although the youthful defender stays under deal at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard until 2025.
According to L’Equipe, via InsideFutbol, the Merseyside Reds recently sent agents to keep track of Sow during the international break after a recommendation by Naby Keita.
Sow and Keita have spent time together in the Guinea setup since the latter earned his first national team call-up in 2020, and the Saint-Etienne man played the full 90 of last week’s 1-0 loss to Egypt.
Sow has now earned 11 caps for the Guinea national team, and Keita is believed to rate his compatriot highly after the starlet impressed against Mohamed Salah.
The Merseyside Reds bolstered their defensive ranks last summer with the acquisition of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, however, English defender, Joe Gomez could head for the exit door this summer.
The Englishman only played a bit-part role in the 2021-22 campaign and has been rumoured with moves to the likes of Newcastle United and Aston Villa in the current window.
PSG Defender Discusses His Future Amid Links to Chelsea
Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe has a contract with the capital club until 2024. In the last few weeks, the soon-to-be 27-year-old has also seen his name in the rumor mill, linking him to a reunion with former manager Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.
With a new regime set to take over at PSG, with Luis Campos coming in as the sporting advisor and having full power in the transfer market for the French club, there are many within the squad wondering if they’re part of the future.
RMC Sport relayed the remarks made by Kimpembe when the central defender was asked about his future with his boyhood club.
The France international stated that he understands the importance of where he’s at in his career. Kimpembe added that he’s eager to meet with the management to discuss his future.
“Everyone knows my love for PSG. It’s mutual. I’m turning 27 in August, a key moment in my career,” Kimpembe said.
“My next contract will be important. I’m waiting to meet the new sports management, to know the new project; I’m interested. We’ll have to discuss fairly quickly.”
There’s no denying Kimpembe’s love for PSG, but the inconsistency he brings can be frustrating; it’s why the departure of Thiago Silva continues to be felt. The Ligue 1 side rolled the dice allowing the Brazilian to leave, thinking Kimpembe would slide alongside Marquinhos and replace Silva. However, it hasn’t gone as planned.
With Ramos having injury issues, it will be interesting to see if Campos decides to cash in on Kimpembe with a possible move to Chelsea or perhaps the Portuguese club chief feels he’s part of his plans. This summer will tell what the future holds.
Chelsea enter the battle to sign No.9 Ligue 1 centre-forward
Jonathan David is reportedly among the footballers targeted by Chelsea ahead of the new campaign. The Blues are in the market for new faces as they look to undergo a massive overhaul following the arrival of the new owners.
The London club have already identified quite a few options in the transfer market, with the list including Canada international. The Lille striker is a man in demand this summer following his blazing displays for the French club and the centre-forward side.
David could look to earn a big-money move later this summer, with the PL emerging as a possible destination. The report suggests the Blues are keeping close tabs on the progress of Jonathan. The 22-year-old centre-forward is coming on the back of yet another impressive campaign in Ligue 1 that saw him score 15 league goals in 38 games.
The Canadian striker has been an ever-present figure in Les Dogues’ attacking setup, impressing the onlookers with his dynamism and goalscoring ability. Jonathan’s displays have been even more fantastic on the international stage.
In only 30 caps for the Canadian national team, David has recorded 20 goals and has played a crucial role in his nation’s qualification for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Romelu Lukaku has remained keen on leaving the Blues in the summer, with Real Madrid reportedly keeping close tabs on his situation. The London club will be wary of the fact that Jonathan’s value could skyrocket if he enjoys a solid World Cup.
Speaking to the London is Blue Podcast, via the Chelsea Chronicle, as quoted by football.london, Matt Law of The Telegraph subtly hinted that Chelsea are still very much in contention to sign AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni.
The 21-year-old has been brilliant for the French club over the last two seasons. The Frenchman helped them ensure a 3rd place finish last season while they are only four points off 2nd place Nice in the current campaign halfway through this term. Two months ago, he also played a crucial role in helping Les Bleus win the UEFA Nations League.
Thus, he has certainly impressed and has been on the radar of Chelsea for a while. The Blues apparently also met his representatives in the summer and could now reignite their interest in the player.
Matt Law of The Telegraph recently revealed that Tchouameni and Declan Rice have caught the interest of the West London club, but the former could be a cheaper option. He also indicated that the Stamford Bridge outfit are making positive moves to sign the Frenchman.
“It feels like he [Tchouameni] would be the sort of cheaper option than Declan Rice. Whether that makes him option A, let us see. But I certainly think, at the moment, there is a direction of travel that is quite positive in terms of Chelsea and Tchouameni.”
Manchester City Face Stiff Competition For This Ligue 1 Forward: Should Pep Launch A Move?
In a recent report, Jeunes Footeux mentioned that Manchester City are facing stiff competition for Stade Reims forward Hugo Ekitike. It has been mentioned that Man City will have to rival Borussia Dortmund, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Newcastle United and Arsenal in pursuit of the French attacker.
The 19-year-old is having a bright season in French football after producing some fruitful displays as the spearhead of Reims’ attack. Ekitike has registered ten goals and four assists in 24 matches for the French outfit during this campaign across all fronts.
The Reims-born youngster has done well to average 1.3 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. However, he has been sloppy when interchanging possession with his teammates up top, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 69.8% in the top tier of French football (stats via whoscored).
Ekitike can put his pace to good use when attempting to run in behind the opposition half. He is proving himself to be a capable finisher in the attacking end of the field and can even create some meaningful openings for others around him. Ekitike is primarily a centre-forward but can even fill in as a left-sided wide player if required.
However, the French whizkid is still quite raw and would need time before he can feature at the highest level every week. Still, Man City should think about engineering a move to bring him to the Etihad Stadium when the transfer window commences later this summer.
Pep Guardiola is in dire need to add a new number nine to his squad. Thus, Ekitike could serve as a perfect candidate to fill in the role of a backup striker at the Mancunian club in the coming seasons.
At 19, the future is quite bright for the French striker as long as he continues to work hard on improving his game with each year. With all things considered, Guardiola would be wise to make a move to acquire the services of Ekitike this summer.
Chelsea enter the battle to sign No.11 talented Ligue 1 striker
Tottenham and Chelsea are on red alert as Martin Satriano continues to impress in Ligue 1. The Inter Milan striker is currently on loan at Stade Brest, with his blazing displays in the French top-flight making him one of the most sought-after young centre-forwards in Europe.
Tottenham and Chelsea are among the teams keeping a close eye on his development, with an eye on a possible move after the end of the campaign. Martin is expected to return to Inter Milan in the summer, but the Nerazzurri could face a fierce battle in their bid to keep hold of the striker, with Lille and Marseille also involved in the battle.
Formerly of Nacional, Martin had joined the Nerazzurri academy in early 2020. After spending almost two years in Italy, he was shipped to Stade Brest in winter, in a short-term loan deal in order to gain more experience at the highest level of football.
Barely three months after his move to Brest, Satriano has racked up four goals in 11 league games. The Uruguayan striker has impressed the onlookers with his ability to sniff goalscoring chances, coupled with his imposing 1.87m frame that makes him a threat in the final third.
The report suggests the Blues are targeting Martin in light of the uncertain futures of Werner and Lukaku. There is a chance both the forwards could be offloaded in the summer, with the German manager looking to start from scratch following a couple of disappointing investments in the goalscoring department.

Hope for Chelsea as Spanish giants €10m short of Ligue 1 star’s asking price
According to Sky Italia and Fabrizio Romano (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have been handed a glimmer of hope in the pursuit of talented French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni with Real Madrid said to be €10million off the asking price Monaco are demanding for their prized asset.
Tchouameni joined Monaco from Bordeaux in 2020 and has since then gone on to establish himself as one of the most talented defensive midfield prospects in the world. His performances for the Ligue 1 giants have earned him plaudits from around Europe.
The 22-year-old midfielder has played 50 times for Monaco this season scoring five goals and providing three assists across all competitions. Tchouameni’s versatility adds to his importance with the talented Frenchman capable of playing even in more advanced roles.
Real Madrid were said to be keen on signing the French international and have already made their offer for him. However, they are still short of Monaco’s asking price of €80million, according to Fabrizio Romano (h/t football.london) and that offers Chelsea a window of opportunity to try and sign Tchouameni.
If Real Madrid want a player, they try their best to get him into their ranks and with Tchouameni, expect it to be no different. After all, Los Blancos are the team that tabled a €200m bid for Kylian Mbappe of PSG last year.
Even if Los Blancos are a little off from the valuation, the fact that the player actually wants to join them goes a long way in deciding the future of the Frenchman. Tchouameni is bound to succeed and would be a part of Real Madrid’s midfield for many years to come given his age and talent.
Chelsea could benefit from adding the 22-year-old to their roster. Chelsea’s midfield finds itself in a conundrum with both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho ageing and not the players they were once. Mateo Kovacic for all his brilliance tends to be injured often.
Adding Tchouameni to a young crop of talents like Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour would have had the Blues sorted for many years to come but it seems unlikely right now. Whilst there are other options that we could explore, the Frenchman may seem like an opportunity lost if Madrid match the valuation.
It remains to be seen as to how Chelsea choose to reinforce their midfield for next season. They could manage for a while even if they don’t and keep their main players on board, but adding quality is always welcome.
Liverpool keen on to sign in-demand Ligue 1 forward and €35m-rated Brazil international
Liverpool were allegedly among a host of sides ‘watching’ Reims forward Hugo Ekitike in Ligue 1 action recently.
The 19-year-old Frenchman has attracted a lot of interest from the Premier League of late and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United were said to be close to agreeing a January deadline day swoop.
Having failed to clinch transfer, the Reds, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea are also understood to have sent scouts to monitor the teenager, 90min reports.
The report adds that representatives of the Merseyside club were there to ‘cast an eye’ on the France youth international starlet.
This season Ekitike has netted 10 times and registered four assists in 22 outings across all competitions – including a goal with emissaries from all around Europe in attendance.
Rated at £5.4 million and under contract until June 2024 (Transfermarkt), the sum for signing the ace likened to Kylian Mbappe would be very small compared to the real thing.
In other news, Barcelona boss Xavi is reportedly poised to tie Liverpool target Gavi down to a fresh contract at Camp Nou.
His emergence has reportedly attracted the attention of the Reds, with the club preparing to activate his €50m (£43m) exit clause if Blaugrana cannot reach an agreement with the midfielder over an extension.
According to Sport, the manager is pushing for his side to agree a fresh deal with him with a significantly higher buy-out clause and wage, as the ace is reported to earn just £1.600 per week under his existing terms.
Man United and Liverpool have both made an approach for Ajax forward Antony Matheys, according to reports in Brazil. Brazil international has been one of Ajax’s standout performers under Erik ten Hag this campaign, scoring 12 goals and registering 10 assists in 33 games.
Man United are looking to strengthen their front-line after a woeful season, and it’s understood that the Dutch manager has identified Matheus as a signing who could immediately improve his team. Liverpool are also in the running to add Antony and have made a concrete approach ‘in recent weeks’ along with Man United.
Erik ten Hag has now worked with the 22-year-old winger for two campaigns at Ajax, and the attacker was quick to make an impact in the Eredivisie following his arrival from Sao Paulo in an £18.2m deal in 2020. Newcastle United have also made an approach, but the Brazilian attacker’s preference would be to join either Man United or Liverpool.
Erik ten Hag made his admiration for the South American attacker clear. ‘If Antony were to go, it would be a loss for Ajax,’ the Dutch coach said. ‘You have no one in the current squad who can take over his position. He is top class.’ The Brazilian’s current contract with Eredivisie giants expires in 2025.
Speaking about Matheus’ impact on the Ajax team earlier this month, Erik ten Hag said: ‘Without Antony it is all a bit less fast and dynamic on the right, which also makes it more difficult for the team. Then the spaces become a lot smaller.’
